Samsung and LG launch new handsets

Samsung showcased the U900 Soul as part of its new model line up at Mobile World Congress. The Soul is the final phone in the 'Ultra Edition' series and is a fully featured slide phone with HSDPA, 5 megapixel camera and music amplifier by ICEpower® technology by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower, all packed in a full metal body just 12.9mm thin.

Samsung also have a Symbian powered update-version of the G800 on display, called the Samsung G810. It is a 5 megapixel camera phone with the same 3x optical zoom as the G800 and some great additions like GPS and Wi-Fi.
Other models launched include the Samsung P960, a multimedia 3G slide phone and the F480, a slim touch screen device with slow motion and video editing amongst its features.

LG used this 3GSM conference to highlight three new slider phones that make up the new KF range. The top spec phone is the KF700 which contains 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, microSD memory card slot and detailed web browser integrating Google Search, Blogs, Gmail, Maps and Youtube all viewable on its 3 inch touch display.

Looking like a close relative of the F490/F700 this particular touch screen phone runs the Windows Mobile 6 operating system and benefits from a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, 8GB memory and 7.2Mbps HSDPA.

Samsung makes solid bid for tough phone market

Samsung and O2 have officially announced the launch of the Samsung Solid, Samsung's first ultra durable handset.
Using a thick rubber case, the Samsung Solid's water and dust resistancy is effective to an IP rating of 54, meaning it will survive water splashes or knocks and drops.
Features include a digital camera, Bluetooth, flash light, a long battery life and a unique SOS dialing feature.
Clearly aimed at tradesmen and outdoor pursuits markets, the Samsung Solid looks to be going head to head with the JCB Toughphone released before Christmas.

Samsung releases details of two new phones: P720 and F490

Samsung have two new handsets ready for release. The first is the P720 model which features a 3 megapixel camera and touch screen QVGA display. It looks very similar to the recent P520 Armani phone but in reality is thicker and slightly taller. This may be down to the fact that the P720 will be the second handset in the Duos range and features a dual SIM card slot.
The second handset is the Samsung F490, a slim touch screen mobile styled like the F700 and offering a 3.2 inch display with haptic touch feedback and a 5 megapixel camera.
The P720 may be destined for the Asian market but we hope to see the F490 over here in the early part of 2008.

8 megapixel Samsung camera phone in 2008

Expect the imaging capabilities of mobile phones to continue to improve as Samsung announce it has developed an 8-megapixel CMOS module for use in a mobile phone.

The module is the same size as Samsung's current 3.2-megapixel module at 10.5 x 11.5 x 9.4mm, which bodes well for a continuation of slim slider phone designs. The 8-megapixel module captures 3264 x 2444 pixels, has autofocus capabilities and will be able to produce 300dpi picture output for prints as large as 10 x 8-inches.

The module is expected to go into mass production in the first half of 2008 and should be available in high-end Samsung phones later in 2008.
